Thomas Schmalix Thomas Schmalix Thomas “Tom” Patrick Schmalix, 68, of Belle Union passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at his residence.

Tom was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of William and Janet Schmalix, and was a 1967 graduate of Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn, New York. He also attended Indiana State University.

Mr. Schmalix proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Optimus Club. Tom was a Millwright at Linkbelt/Rexnord Bearing for over 30 years until his retirement in 2005. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Jefferson Township Fire Department where he served as chief for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna Schmalix; two children, Steffanie Hornback, (fiancé- Wayne Campbell), Coatesville, and T. Patrick Schmalix II (wife-Ginny), Wasilla, Alaska; two brothers, Bill Schmalix, (wife-Jonne), and Mike Schmalix; two sisters, Gail Wozniak, (husband-Tony), and Deb Stewart, (husband- Jim); three grandchildren, Matthew Honeycutt, Cale Hornback, and A. J. Hornback; a great-granddaughter, Nahla Honeycutt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Schmalix.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Clyde Stringer will be the Master of Ceremonies. Friends may call at Hopkins Rector Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
