Area Habitat for Humanity taking applications

Putnam County Habitat for Humanity is beginning to take applications for a house to be rehabbed in the Reelsville area in Putnam County. The house will be completely rewired, new furnace and air conditioner will be installed, range and refrigerator, new floors, new front and back doors will be installed along with a back deck.

The criteria for applying for a home is a) need; b) ability to pay; c) willingness to partner with Habitat. The willingness to partner is “sweat equity”. On this rehabbed the sweat equity will be 150 hours.

Our mortgages usually run from $350 to $425 monthly. This amount includes your escrow. The house is mortgage based on costs with zero interest. The monthly payment is based upon what you can afford.

Building or rehabbing a home with Habitat is a slow process. Volunteers are used but also is skilled labor on electricity, roofing and plumbing.

Income range is based upon HUD’s 30-60 percent median income for the area.
