The Cloverdale girls basketball team traveled to Northview Saturday, Jan. 6, handing the host Lady Knights a loss, 40-38.

The two squads battled in the first with the Knights taking the lead 15-13 heading into the second quarter. At the half, it appeared the Knights had things well in hand, 24-15.

Both teams scored very little in the third however, with Northview holding an eight point edge, 29-21 heading into the game’s final eight minutes.

The Lady Clovers went to work in the fourth outscoring the Knights, 19-9 for the two-point victory.

“It was a really good win for us tonight,” Cloverdale High School Coach Matthew Langdon said after the game. “To be able turn around one night before and have a tough loss against Owen Valley. Really, we were kind of down and out against Northview also. We were down 11 in the second half.

“Coach Keys did a good job of setting the pace of the game early on, but our girls just reacted to it really well. We came out in the second half and picked up the intensity of the defensive end. Coach Dorsett did a great job of getting the girls fired up and getting the crowd into it. Our girls honestly just really fed off of that, started creating a lot of turnovers.”

According to Langdon, the Clovers found themselves tied 38-all with six second left when coach Thomas drew up a play for Tori Combs, getting her a wide open layup for the win.

Junior Tori Combs led the Clovers with 12 points with Abby Walker scoring 11, Sammie Shrum 10, Hailey Thomas four, Arianna McCracken two and Lakkain Price one.
