SAWs providing no cost ramps to handicapped of Putnam County

SAWs, the mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church that provides handicap ramps, steps and safety railings to the residents of Putnam County will begin its 10th year of service to the community in 2018. SAWs is the only organization in Putnam County that offers help to handicap residents who need improved access to their homes at no cost.

Prior to the SAWs mission, many handicap residents could not easily get in or out of their homes to go to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, or other commitments without the help of friends or emergency services, because they were trapped in their homes.

Since 2009 when the mission started, SAWs has set 159 residents of Putnam County free.

As SAWs begins their 10th year, they ask that those who need their help let them know as soon as possible. Each year they provide 20 to 25 residents with ramps, steps and safety rails as needed. However, they often receive more requests than can be completed, resulting in some residents ending up on a waiting list for the next year.

If you are handicap and have an issue with accessing your home, please don’t delay, call SAWs as soon as possible. If you know of someone who needs help, please let them know about SAWs. Yes! SAWs can help!
