Scholarships for future teachers offered

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will award a $500 scholarship to a third or fourth year college student who aspires to become a future educator. The recipient must be a Putnam County high school graduate and enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in education at an Indiana college/university.

Interested students must submit (a) cover letter, (b) completed application, (c) 1-2 page essay on “Why I Want To Become a Teacher,” (d) recommendation letter from a high school teacher who is not a relative, (e) recommendation letter from a professor in the School of Education, and (f) an official college/university transcript.

The application deadline is April 16, 2018. Applications can be found at www.putnamrta.com. Applications and all requested supporting information, as well as any questions, should be emailed to pcretiredteachers@gmail.com.

The Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation State Scholarship Committee offers an opportunity for upcoming juniors or seniors who have a relative who is a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Applicants must be enrolled in an education program at any of Indiana’s colleges or universities to apply for a $2,000 scholarship for the 2018/2019 school year. To find out what IRTA district you live in, please check the Indiana Retired Teachers Association website www.retiredteachers.org and go to the IRTA Foundation tab. You will find the association’s district map and the online application material under that tab. Applicants may apply for both scholarships if they meet the qualification criteria.
