Easter and your animals

The Easter holiday will soon be here, and there are dangers to consider. The Easter Lily is a decorative houseplant and sometimes included in floral arrangements.

Easter lilies are extremely poisonous to cats, and just one or two leaves (or even the pollen) can kill a cat! Even small ingestions can result in severe kidney failure.

While Easter lilies are toxic to cats, they are not considered poisonous to dogs and won’t kill a dog, even if a pup ingests them.

However, chocolate is bad for dogs. Chocolate is extremely toxic to them. Chocolate contains theobromine, a naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, and it increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. It may cause excessive vomiting and diarrhea.

While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it is the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs, and it can be deadly. Please make sure your children do not give chocolate to a dog.
