Clovers second in three-way golf match at Quail Creek

Coach Doug Wokoun and his Cloverdale boys golf team visited Quail Creek Golf Course last week to take on Tri-West and South Putnam. After nine holes of play, the Bruins walked away with the win with 165, the Clovers were second with 200 and the Eagles third at 208.

Taylor Gardner, of Tri-West, won medalist honors, carding a 36.

For the Clovers, Drew Boyette had the lowest score with a 41, followed by Wyatt Helterbrand at 47, Jason Miller 55, Tyler Harrison 57, Michael Holsapple 58 and Cody Morris 62.

“Drew played very well. He had one hole with a problem, but otherwise had a very solid round,” coach Wokoun said. “Wyatt had one of his more consistent outings of the spring. He is just a little bit away from posting the scores that we know he is capable of.

“Jason’s round was typical of his spring, not bad but a few glitches along the way. He has lipped more putts already this spring than any player I have ever had. If a few of those would fall, he would be right where we need him,” Wokoun continued. “Tyler played well in spots, but is really battling issues with consistency. He and Michael are both struggling at times, and finding a way around that is proving difficult.”

Cloverdale will host the Putnam County Tournament Thursday, May 10, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
