The Cloverdale softball team hosted Covenant Christian Monday, May 7, sending them home with a 12-0 loss.

“Cloverdale moved to 8-5 on the season with a solid performance against Covenant Christian on Monday night,” CHS Head Coach Jim Spencer said. “We were able to get out of a couple of defensive jams early which allowed us to increase the score, eventually leading to the 10-run-rule win. We continue to get a little better each night in all phases of the game. We just need to keep improving in each practice and game so that we might be playing our best softball at the end of the year.”

The Clovers jumped on the board in the bottom of the first scoring four runs.

Macie Couch was issued a walk and advanced to third on a double by Mackenzie Allen. Kiley Shedron ground out, scoring Couch and advancing Goss to third, who had ground into a fielder’s choice in her at bat. Skylynne Lowe reached on an error, scoring Goss. Tori Combs really got things going as she homered, scoring Lowe and herself for a 4-0 lead. The Clovers added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Allen.

A big fourth inning sealed the deal for Cloverdale, scoring seven runs.

Autumn Lewellen walked and advanced to second on a ground out by Couch. Allen reached on an error, moving Lewellen to third. Goss stepped to the plate and singled on a fly ball to second, scoring Lewellen and moving Allen to second. Shedron advanced all runners on a single to center field, loading the bases.

Allen scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0. Lowe walked, loading the bases once more. Goss scored on a wild pitch, and Combs singled on a fly ball to second, scoring Shedron, 9-0. Garretson walked next. Lowe scored on a passed ball, and Combs scored on a wild pitch. Hannah Long hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Garretson on the tag up, 12-0.

The Clover offense was led by Combs with three hits including a home run and a double and three RBI. Lewellen finished her night with two hits, Couch and Allen each hit a double with Allen picking up an RBI. Morgan Goss had a single and an RBI, Shedron a single and Long an RBI.

Couch threw a complete game in the circle for the Clovers. She threw 56 pitches in 5.0 innings and allowed just five hits while striking out four batters.
