Lady Clover softball earns wins over Union Dugger, Rockville

Coach Jim Spencer and his Cloverdale varsity softball team hosted Union Dugger Thursday, May 10, coming away with a 10-1 win.

The Clovers scored one run in the bottom of the first, added four more in the second, and four more in the third before Dugger was able to get on the board. The Bulldogs plated one run in the top of the sixth, a run that the Clovers matched in the bottom of the same inning.

At the end of the contest, Union Dugger scored one run on four hits and committed three errors. Cloverdale finished with 10 runs on 11 hits and four errors.

Tori Combs led the team with a single, a double, a home run and three RBI. Kiley Shedron had three singles and four RBI, Makenzie Allen a single, a double and an RBI and Haley Smith, Hannah Long and Dinah Bunch each had a single.

Macie Couch pitched a complete game for Cloverdale, striking out seven. Her record is now 10-4.

“A fairly solid outing for the Clovers in a win against Union Dugger,” coach Spencer noted. “We did a good job of scoring runs early and preventing Union Dugger from getting on the scoreboard. We made just enough defensive plays to avoid a big inning and secure the win.”

On Friday night, the Clovers traveled to Rockville, defeating the host Rox, 14-6.

“A good win to move to 11-5 on the season,” Spencer said. “We came alive at the plate in the fourth and were able to overcome some defensive miscues throughout the night by continuing to score runs.”

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when the Clovers plated six runs. The Rox score one in the bottom of the frame. Cloverdale added two more in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Rox plated one more in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Macie Couch led the team with three singles, a double and four RBI. Sky Lowe added a triple, a home run, and three RBI. Makenzie Allen had two singles, Morgan Goss two singles and two RBI, and Tori Combs a single, a triple and one RBI. Hannah Long had two singles, Holly Garretson two singles and an RBI, Autumn Lewellen a double and Kiley Shedron a single and an RBI.

Couch, again, pitched a complete game that included 12 strikeouts.
