Clovers fall to South Putnam in sectional

The Cloverdale varsity baseball team took on the South Putnam Eagles in the baseball sectional opener Wednesday, April 23, falling 8-1.

The Eagles (5-17), scored a run in the top of the first but Cloverdale answered in the bottom of the second for a 1-1 tie.

Tyce Jackson hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by the South Putnam shortstop. Jackson stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice by Nick Smith. Brayden Blevins stepped up and hit an RBI sacrifice to second, scoring Jackson.

The Clovers only hit of the day came from Jackson in the bottom of the fourth inning when he hit a double on a fly ball to right field.

Three pitchers graced the mound for Cloverdale. Parker Watts threw 68 pitches in 3.2 innings. He allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out two.

Nick Winders threw 54 pitches in 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, on five hits. He walked one batter and struck out three.

Nick Smith threw 10 pitches in 0.2 innings. He allowed zero hits and zero runs while striking out two.
