Poland Community Lions hold an annual event each September called “Celebrate Poland” to commemorate the history of this eastern Clay County town. The town of Poland was platted in mid-September 1841.

Last year, a reunion of alumni from Poland School was held 50 years after the closing of the school in 1967. This year, Poland Community Lions will host a revival of the Poland Community Sale, a live auction fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at Lions Park. Proceeds go to Poland Community Lions Club for expansion and maintenance of the park, and community service projects.

The original Poland Community Sale was held for over 30 years ending in the early 1990s. The sale was a live auction usually held in late March and was hosted by Poland Volunteer Fire Department on the fire house grounds. The items up for sale were consigned by community members who could collect all or a portion of the highest bid value or donate the proceeds to the Fire Dept. In most cases, local licensed auctioneers donated their time and received no commission for the sale of the items.

For the revival of the Poland Community Sale, many nice estate sale items, including furniture, antiques, collectibles, housewares, and primitives have been secured for auction to the highest bidder. The Poland Community Lions need additional auction items from members of the surrounding community. Call 812-585- 1655 or 812-986-2305 to consign a sale item or see us on Facebook at Poland Community Lions Club for more information.

A licensed auctioneer will conduct the auction. Poland Lions members will handle clerking, issuing of bid numbers, ring action and cashier transactions.

Delicious food will be available and homemade cakes, pies and dessert items will be offered.

Mark your calendars now for this huge community sale and please contact us if you have items that you would like us to sell!
