PCPL presents local author Stuart Fabe

The Putnam County Public Library’s Authors Series welcomes local author Stuart Fabe on Wednesday, Aug, 29, at 6:30 p.m. Fabe will discuss his newest novel, “Evening Code,” followed by a book sale and signing!

“Evening Code” is Stuart’s fourth novel and is the third story in the Clay Arnold series. Clay Arnold is a world-class photographer and owner of an antique camera museum. When he purchases a rare camera once owned by Samuel Morse, Clay finds a clue that leads him on treasure hunt for a trove of rare Renaissance paintings. However, there is someone who would like to foil Clay’s plans...

Stuart enjoys the role of storyteller and in examining the human conflicts inherent to vigilantism and good-versus-evil. Over the last four decades, Stuart has devoted his creative energies to three artistic media: photography, weaving, and writing. He has published several books featuring both is photography and weavings.

Book Club celebrates 20 years

The Putnam County Public Library’s longest running book club is celebrating 20 years of literary enlightenment on Monday, Sept. 10 with an open house. Beginning at 5 p.m. the group will hold a social hour for new and old members alike. Come see old friends or meet new ones! Drinks and appetizers will be served. Then join us at 6 p.m. for a showing of the movie adaptation of this month’s book selection, “The Zookeeper’s Wife” by Diane Ackerman. Current members are encouraged to bring a friend, and all are welcome! Copies of this month’s book are available at the Reference Desk.

Putnam Adult Literacy Services needs you!

Do you need help reading or know someone who does? Are you interested in volunteering your time to help someone improve their reading skills? The Putnam Adult Literary Services (PALS) program at the Putnam County Public Library is seeking adult learners and tutors to join their program. Adult learners can be anyone interested in improving their basic reading or writing in a free one on one session with a trained tutor. Tutors are volunteers who commit to going through 8 hours of training and giving at least 45 minutes a week to teach an adult to read. Tutors and learners arrange their own schedules but meet in the library and have access to research based materials. A new tutor training will be offered at the library on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 12-4 p.m. and followed up on Monday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m.-noon. Darco Hawxhurst a professional tutor-trainer for the VITAL program of Monroe County will be the presenter. Also featured will be speaker Lori Miller with Transformers of Putnam County and a Q&A with experienced tutors in the PALS program.
