Cloverdale golf sees improvement

The Cloverdale girls golf team took on Owen Valley and North Putnam at Clover Meadows Monday, Aug. 20, finishing second, 217-246-266.

Sammie Shrum carded a 54 to lead the Clovers, followed by Michaela Nees with a 61, Grace Leonard 63, Libby Dominguez 68, Gayle Baugh 71, Gabby Hamilton 75 and Sarah Baker 79.

Medalist was North Putnam’s A. Simmerman with a 48.

“Cloverdale struggled, but hopefully we can get things back on track by the conference meet this Saturday,” CHS head coach Kyle Walter said after the meet.

The Clovers were back in action on Tuesday as they took on Monrovia and Plainfield at Clover Meadows. Plainfield won with a score of 194, followed by Monrovia at 222 and the Clovers with a 231.

“We played a little better last nice,” Walter said. “(Sammie) Shrum is starting to play the way she is capable of. (We’re) Looking forward to seeing what we can do Saturday at conference.”

Shrum led Cloverdale with a 45, with Dominguez shooting a 58, Baugh 61, Nees 67, Baker 75 and Hamilton 77.
