Lady Clovers roll over Cardinals

Coach Sam Jones and his varsity Cloverdale volleyball team visited Bloomfield Monday, Aug. 27, coming away with a 3-0 win by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-17.

“I was worried going into tonight how we would handle a tough Bloomfield team,” Coach Jones explained. “We ended Saturday on a high note with a comeback victory over Hauser. I wondered if we would lose our focus. They proved me wrong in the first set as we really increased the tempo with great serve-receive and our hitters putting the ball away.

“I thought we did a nice job of moving the ball around when we were out of system,” Jones continued. “There were some times that Kayla, Kenzie, and Kassie were able to score when we weren’t in the best positions because of their constant attack.

“Even in the second set we got up early only to see Bloomfield make some adjustments and their passing steadied. They have two or three girls who can really put the ball away and if you give them a free ball, their setter knows where to go. We were up early and they clawed back to 22-22 but I trust our girls in pressure situations can get the job done.”

The Clovers offensive attack was led by senior Tori Combs with 16 kills, with Mackenzie Stoltz adding 11, Kassie Wade five, Kayla Perdue four and Haley Smith two. Hannah Rady finished with 36 set assists.

Behind the service line, Kaya Daub finished with 10 points with Rady adding nine, Combs eight and Hailey Thomas five.

The net defense was spearheaded by Combs with an amazing eight blocks. Stoltz and Wade each had 1 1/2 blocks in the game.

Thomas led the Clover squad in dig with 15 with Daub picking up 10 and Stoltz six.
